Using the MTSS model, the Reading Specialist in this position will involve working directly with students who need support academically in Reading and providing interventions and support to increase student achievement. The “Instructional Coach” role will focus on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding about research-based effective instruction.
SUMMARY: Under the direction of the principal, the Reading Specialist would be working with targeted middle school students to raise student achievement to grade level or above. The Specialist will also plan, implement, and assess intervention services to ensure fidelity; enable teachers’ capacity to effectively implement identified core or universal instructional practices for individual students or small groups of students. Academic Interventionists will work alongside classroom teachers in planning and implementing English/ELA intervention initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid MI teaching certificate
- Comprehensive knowledge of current research in effective reading practices
- Literate in technology programs and skills - including google applications
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Principal may find appropriate and acceptable
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide Tier 3 interventions to students, using data to guide instruction/interventions
- Progress monitoring of Tier 3 students. (All MTSS programing)
- Provide instructional support for teachers who are implementing Tier 2 interventions
- Create positive relationships with teachers, students, and administrators
- Communicate and demonstrate researched-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance and communicate effectively with the school district and community
- Schedule groups, testing, progress monitoring.
- Monitor and document student progress through student information systems
- Work independently and cooperatively using a variety of instructional strategies
- Ability to plan and organize; excellent work habits
- Serve as a content expert to provide support on curriculum, high-quality interactions, and the science of teaching reading
- Are familiar with reading research, standards, and assessments, as well as best practices, strategies, and managing diverse learners
- Differentiate small group instruction to meet student needs
- Support procedural building needs
- Willing to attend conferences and participate in professional development
- Perform other duties as assigned
